A rectory has been in Leuben at least since 1362. The parish church was established in 1512. It was the only church between Dresden and Dohna. The old churchwas situatedon an elevation surrounded bya graveyard.A village pond layin front of the church. Due to high increase in population the number of church members also increased strongly. That was the reason for the church new building in the year 1897. The church was constructed from 8. May 1899to February 1901. On Ascention Day in May 1899 the church got it's name 'Himmelfahrtskirche' (Ascension Day Church). During construction of the Ascension church the village pond was filled in and the churchyard reduced. The church bells as well as the organ pipes had to be handed over as war metal donation. Today the church uses bells from the year 1922. During the Second World War the church only suffered roof damage, which were repaired in the years1964to 1970.
